Salima Faiza - Fasting for some people is a practice of trust, partly is a voluntary activity performed for health reasons. Fasting means not consuming food and beverages at all, or only a few types of food.
Some types of fasting is known among other things:
1. Fasting for medical purposes, which is usually done before the health tests or surgery around 8 hours ahead of medical procedures or even more.
2. Religious Fasting, as we mentioned at the beginning, fasting also became part of the trust. Usually, fasts for religious reasons requires that the believer not to eat for several days, or not eating and drinking from sunrise to sunset for a month, did not eat meat, dairy, and eggs in a few weeks once.
3. Fasting to detoxify the body, that much is done to cleanse the body of toxins that settles in the body. However, there has been no strong evidence about the benefits of fasting in this regard.
Later, many people are using the fast as a way to get rid of a few pounds of body weight. In fact, fasting is precisely slowing down the body's metabolism. This happens because the body does not get a lot of fuel coming from food so your body trying to survive with a slow metabolism. The body does burn calories as quickly as usual.Weight can be reduced, but that goes not fat, but rather water and muscle.
If fasting is done with the aim of lowering body weight, while those who run it go back to normal eating routine, the weight of water which shrinks during the fasting will be back. In fact, there is a possibility of weight will be increased because of the metabolic still working slow burn calories in the former of lent.
The only way that fasting can successfully lose weight is if at the time of eating, the food eaten is not excessive and hunger remain controllable. In terms of weight loss,any way can only be successful if the calories in the body are reduced.
